National Legislation Aims to Resolve Thimerosal Controversy - Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney introduced the �Comprehensive Comparative Study of Vaccinated and Unvaccinated Populations Act of 2007� (H.R. 2832), legislation that would require the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct a comprehensive comparative study of vaccinated and unvaccinated populations, which may resolve the controversy about the possible link between autism and mercury or other vaccine components [details here].

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) website has a section on immunization laws in the United States. One section of interest is A matter of law: Parents must be informed. Quoting from this section: �By law, parents, guardians, or patients must be given information in writing about the risks and benefits of vaccination before a vaccine is administered.� The section then references �Vaccines and Immunizations� on the website of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Of particular interest is the section on �Vaccine Safety and Adverse Events.� Forms are provided for reporting a vaccine adverse event, either on-line or on a paper form.
