Petition Opposing Passage of the Emergency Health Powers Act in NY

The petition:

To Governor Pataki and all New York State Elected Officials
Oppose the Emergency Health Powers Act in New York State

We, the people of New York, are opposed to the Emergency Health Powers Act (S5841 and A9508) that was introduced into the New York State legislature on November 30, 2001.

While we appreciate the efforts of the state to protect citizens from biological and other forms of terrorism, it must not do so at the expense of our civil liberties.

Forcing vaccinations, abolishing patient privacy, criminalizing the refusal of medical treatment, seizing and destroying private property, controlling communications, food, fuel, drugs and other items while providing a waiver of accountability to the perpetrators of these acts is unconscionable.

The anticipated use of such hazardous agents as smallpox and anthrax vaccines underscores our belief that no Governor or Department of Public Health should be provided with such sweeping, unlimited powers.

On September 11th, thousands were sacrificed in New York City when two great towers fell. Today in New York State two great towers stand yet - the Bill of Rights and the United States Constitution. Would you bring down what the terrorists could not?

We call upon you to ACTIVELY RESIST all efforts, plans and actions to promote and pass the Emergency Health Powers Act in New York State.

Respectfully submitted,
The Undersigned
