Vaccination Bills in NYS Legislature

June 2007 Update
(prefix "A" is Assembly version, "S" is Senate version)

Extends the protections of the medical exemption from mandatory immunizations for students (would require that more weight be given to the physician's professional opinion in the matter.)
A03180  S01575

Clarifies ambiguities regarding the medical exemption for mandatory immunizations for students (would appear to give the physician or nurse more room for using their own discretion)

Enacts the "philosophical exemption to immunizations act" (would allow a personal/philosophical exemption, as well as the religious and medical exemptions)
A05468  S03031

Provides for the immunization of all children born after January 1, 1996 against the human papillomavirus (HPV)
A05810  S04394 (The Senate version would allow the parents to withhold consent.)

Encourages voluntary, informed vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) (would encourage but not mandate HPV vaccination via educational materials and consultation)

Authorizes nurse practitioners to certify that an immunization may be detrimental to a child`s health (A medical exemption can come from a nurse as well as a doctor)
A08392  S04647

Provides protections to parents who decline to have their children immunized on the basis of religious beliefs (Would protect parents against inappropriate and intrusive demands to explain or justify their religious beliefs. They would file an affidavit stating that they hold genuine and sincere religious beliefs which are contrary to the practice of vaccination, without being subject to further inquiry.)
A03064  S01563

Requires immunization of certain children against hepatitis A (There is apparently no corresponding Senate bill.)
